Dulles Town Center Shooter Apprehended Within Minutes, Sheriff Says

The gunman who opened fire during a dispute at the food court inside the Dulles Town Center Mall in Loudoun County was apprehended in just minutes after shooting a stranger, authorities announced.

Leesburg resident Alan Colie, 31, is facing a host of charges following the shooting on Sunday, April 2 that resulted in management being forced to close the mall.

Shortly before noon on Sunday afternoon, deputies from the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office were called to the mall to investigate a shooting, immediately identifying Colie as a suspect and taking him into custody minutes later.

One person was found outside the mall near Dick’s Sporting Goods with a gunshot wound to his stomach, according to the sheriff’s office. He was treated at the scene by members of the Loudoun County Combined Fire and Rescue System and rushed to an area hospital for treatment.

His condition was not immediately available on Monday, April 3.

Colie was arrested and charged with:

  • Aggravated malicious wounding;
  • Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony;
  • Discharging a firearm within a building.

No other victims or suspects were present at the time of the shooting, according to the sheriff’s office. No return court date for Colie has been announced.
